In all activity fields of the company, in which hazards for safety and health cannot be reduced by technical and organizational measures adequately, personal protective equipment (PPE) must be used. However, the PPE has to represent always the last to be taken protective measure. (See element protection measures). In order to determine the correct PPE, a comprehensive risk assessment has to be carried out (see item RA). Subsequently, an activity and function related equipment matrix can be created. In addition, this matrix shows the fundamental PPE, which has to be worn beyond of the offices (basic PPE such as safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, helmets, thermal underwear for winter, etc.) Secondly, the matrix contains lists of specific PPE, which have to be available on the clustered workplaces according to the activities (for example welding goggles, respirator, and specific suits). The lists present also the provided number and lifetime of the PPE. The company provides its employees and visitors the required PPE for free to ensure their safety. Thereby receives the purchasing and distribution of the right PPE attention. In addition, the employee must be trained in the correct use of PPE regularly.
